The shuttle alone makes KCKA membership a great value. Members help each other shuttle boats and vehicles eliminating the need to pay a local outfitter for this service. This could save you and your family hundreds of dollars in shuttle costs each year by not having to rely on commercial outfitters and/or having to drive two vehicles.
Float trips are free as far as KCKA is concerned. KCKA is not in the business of selling trips or renting equipment. Float trips are basically members helping members so they don't have to paddle alone and they can have help shuttling their boat or vehicle. Trip coordinators are simply members who schedule trips to places they like, and then invite other members to join them.
KCKA does require membership and signed Waiver & Liability Release to participate in KCKA activities. This Release protects the KCKA, Trip Coordinators, Board of Directors and Members.
Kayak Chapter: The Kayak Chapter is a group with special interest in whitewater activities and touring/sea kayaking activities. Benefits include special activities and training unique for kayakers such as our Touring Kayak Self-Rescue Classes, Sea Kayaking Trips, Whitewater Kayaking Trips, Kayak Chapter Workshops, Video Rental Library and an Annual Kayak Chapter Party. If you are a whitewater or touring/sea kayaker be sure to add the Kayak Chapter to your membership.
Training often has a nominal fee to cover expenses, handouts, etc. and is sometimes handled through a third party such as a university or the American Red Cross. Occasionally an event will have a small fee to cover food shared by all participants and/or a speaker. Unless advised otherwise you can expect to be responsible for your own travel, food and camping expenses and any licenses, permits or fees charged by a government or campground.
Your membership will be renewable 12 months after you initially join. You will receive a renewal notice via U.S. Mail to the address you provide on your membership application.
Your email address is optional. This is however the only way you will receive notice about the many Short Notice Trips that are not scheduled in time to make the newsletter. Email addresses are not made available to the public. They are made available to other members in the newsletter and may in the future be available to members who have a login ID and password to a private section of our website.
