Arkansas River - Colorado

The Arkansas River from Granite to Canon City, Colorado is a whitewater river ranging from Class II to Class VI.  Only a few sections are suitable for novices. Much of this river is for top experts only. This river is well documented in several publications and on several maps.  None of these sections contain flat-water suitable for touring boats.  Rafts, inflatable WW kayaks, WW kayaks and WW canoes are the choice of most boaters.  Helmets are a requirement for all boaters and passengers due to the rocky environment and Class II - VI rated water.

Popular sections upstream from Salida include; "Granite Canyon", "Pine Creek",  "The Numbers" aka "Fractions", "Frog Run" aka "Narrows" or "Milk Run", "Browns Canyon" and "Salida Run".

Popular sections below Salida include; "Arkansas River Canyon: Salida to Parkdale" and the "Royal Gorge".
