Advanced Rescue Techniques for Kayaks – Designed for touring and recreational kayaks used for flat-water trips. Learn to save some one who needs your help, or help yourself. Regardless or your physical capabilities, in one Sunday morning session you can learn one or more rescue techniques that could save a life or reduce hypothermia. The victim could be you or another paddler. Taught in a nice warm pool.
Prerequisites: Novice Flatwater Paddler or above and own your own kayak.
Kayaking & Basic Paddling Skills – Regardless of what or where you paddle the information, training and practice you will get from this class will make you a better and safer paddler. Boats are furnished. Taught in a nice warm pool.
KCKA Paddle Strokes Review – Learn or review basic canoe paddle strokes and how to make them graceful and efficient. With a primary focus on canoe paddling this training will help you paddle your favorite boat. Taught on the river.
Basic River Rescue – Learn basic river rescue skills and accident prevention from an ACA instructor. Learn to use a throw rope, carabiners, and possibly pulleys. Whether you paddle a kayak, canoe or recreational boat you should learn these basic rescue techniques. Taught on the river.
Basic River Canoe Workshop - This is an ACA (American Canoe Association) class covering the basics of paddling a canoe on the river and includes Class I rapids. Taught on the river.
ACA Whitewater Canoe – This is an ACA (American Canoe Association) class covering the basics of paddling a canoe on a whitewater river. Taught on the river.
KCKA Novice Whitewater Trip/Class – Learn basic whitewater skills with your whitewater canoe or kayak. All whitewater paddlers are invited to participate and assist novices. Most whitewater trips are “short notice” and will not be scheduled in advance. This Spring trip/class is your key to getting involved in and getting on the list to learn about whitewater activities. Basic paddling skills, whitewater boat and proper clothing are required. Taught on a Class II-III river. Favorites sites for this training are the Frog Bayou and Mulberry Rivers in west central Arkansas.
Basic Canoeing - Learn canoeing theory and practical skills,
including; paddling strokes, maneuvers, trim and balance, transportation and the
use of safety equipment. Boats are furnished. This 14 hour class consists of 4
evenings plus a Saturday morning. Taught in the Spring on the Little Arkansas
River in Wichita.
Introduction to Paddling – Test-drive several boats on very tame water.
Bring a friend. If you think you might be interested in paddling or purchasing a different boat, this is your chance to test boats of different types. Swim suit
and liability release required. No paddle experience necessary. Equipment furnished by
KCKA volunteers and/or vendors who support KCKA with a business membership. Watch for this FREE hot weather session in the Wichita and Manhattan areas.
