July 11, 2007 Arkansas River Evening Float

Seventeen paddlers paddled the Wichita Area Paddler’s Recreational Evening Float on July 11, 2007. The float was obviously more interesting than the meeting we would have had on the same night.
We met 6:30 PM at my house. Boats were hauled about 150 yards on a trailer connected to a garden tractor. We put-in under the Amidon Bridge and floated 6.8 miles to the WATER Center. The portage around the Lincoln Dam was a little rough due to the broken concrete and rebar. We had two capsize at the put-in and one capsize after re-entry below the Lincoln Dam. It was a beautiful evening paddle with plenty of shade. We were relying on streetlights by the time we reached the Pawnee Bridge about 9:30. The take-out was only about a quarter mile farther. Everyone had a great time.
